GREEN party activists called on Tony Blair to slop the slaughter of Iraqi civilians in an emergency protest at the escalation of violence outside Tony Blair's official residence in Downing Street on Saturday (April 17th).
The demonstration, which was organised by the Muslim Association of Britain (MAB) and the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) was called after it emerged more than 350 women and children had been killed during the US assault on Fallujah in recent days.
London's Green Party MEP Jean Lambert, who attended the demonstration, said: "Iraq is in chaos thanks in part to Blair's decision to take us to war on the basis of lies and deceit - and in the face of clearly expressed public opposition.
"The humanitarian costs of this war are rising sharply, both inside Iraq and amongst Muslims here in the UK - who are increasingly being seen as terrorism suspects by the Government, the media and even the police."
A CND spokesperson warned the rising death toll and escalation of violence would not end until hostilities ceased, calling for the immediate withdrawal of troops and a peaceful resolution to be brokered by the UN.
