LONDON Green MEP Jean Lambert will be joining protestors outside a government sponsored conference to promote the corporate 'carve-up' of Iraq on Monday.
Mrs Lambert will be joining protestors outside the 'Rebuilding Iraq' conference, at which delegates from UK businesses will receive advice from civil-servants on how to overcome obstacles to trading in Iraq, remove currency from the country and 'claim ownership of Iraqi oil'.
"When we hear so much about democracy and corporate social responsibility it is absolutely shocking to see a Government-sponsored event encouraging corporate social irresponsibility in such an undemocratic way.
"The people of Iraq must have the right to decide for themselves how their shattered country will be rebuilt' - and any international business deals must, at the very least, have the sanction of a democratic Iraqi government.
"This conference is about promoting the interests of UK business in the absence of any democratic Iraqi mandate, as evidenced by the staggering fact that delegates will be paying more than £1,000 each just to walk through the conference doors."
The protests will include street theatre, a mock auction of contracts with Iraq, and delegates being offering slices from a giant Iraq-shaped cake.
